Bernard Baffoe

Emigrating with his Immediate family from Ghana to the US, Bernard's journey into the world of dance came as a surprise to him as well. His parents traveled here with the goal of providing a better future for their children, and his goal has been to strive to achieve his academic and social goals and in turn that of his parents. After completing his Undergraduate career at Boston College with a degree in Biology, Bernard decided to return to New York City, where his family had made its home since their arrival into the country; this in order to continue his education in the health sciences. He is currently furthering his education in the health sciences, while continuing his journey into dance.
His love for music was bred as a child being an instrumentalist (Bassist) in his father's church in Ghana. While in the States, he's been an instrumentalist in a church, as well as the premier bassist in some bands during his undergraduate career. His want to continue growing in music drove him towards an intrigue into jazz, where he discovered salsa. He first learned of Eddie Palmieri, a jazz artist who he learned was also a salsa artist, and a legend in the salsa world. He continued to listen to more of Mr. Palmieri's music and soon after learned about artists such as Justo Betancourt and others from the Age of Fania.
His intrigue continued to build and he soon found himself under the instruction of Ahtoy Wonpat-Borja, Daniel Enskat and the Repertory Dancers of BAILA Society, initiating his birth into the world of salsa dancing. It's been an incredible delight to venture into a world of physical expression of music from the stand point of one who previously, and still today, is used to expressing emotions through playing an instrument. He's been blessed to be with such a great family, with great individuals who are as inspiring to him today as they were on his first day as a student in the company.
