Gerry began his dancing career in the summer of 2003 with Santo Rico Dance Company immediately after completing his undergraduate degree in History and Romance Languages at Boston College. Gerry always had a love of dance and the desire to learn a variety of dance styles including jazz, ballet and salsa. He was able to attend all the classes Santo Rico Dance Company had to offer and after a year and a half, was invited to become a member of the semi-professional team, “Xibición Santo Rico”.

In 2006, after dancing for two years with “Xibición,” Gerry took a respite from the salsa scene in order to pursue a Masters Degree in Teaching at Iona College. However, not more than a year later, Gerry’s desire to dance brought him back to the salsa scene. Upon his return, he began taking classes at BAILA Society Dance Company and soon after was graciously invited to join the Repertory Dance Team.

Since June 2007, Gerry has had the privilege of performing and traveling as a member of Baila Society. He has had the fortune of performing at events such as The New York Salsa Congress, YAI Charity Event and Tavern on the Green with the nine-time Latin Grammy Award Winner Eddie Palmieri. In addition, Gerry has had the opportunity to travel to Manchester, England and Milan, Italy performing as a member of Baila Society.

Gerry is the youngest of four children whose parents emigrated from the Dominican Republic in 1972. Supplementing his love of dance, Gerry is a New York State dually certified High School World Language teacher in Spanish and French. He also holds a First Degree Black Belt from the World Seido Karate Organization and is happily married to Angelique Cruz—his childhood sweetheart.
